The early decision transfer deadline is July 5, 2013.  The regular decision transfer deadline is July 15, 2013. Please be advised for those students that are interested in participating in the Fall On-Campus Interviews (OCI), you will have to apply by the early decision deadline. Only early decision applicants will be guaranteed to have decisions in time to participate in Early Fall On-Campus Interviews.  While the committee will try to accommodate applications whose 1L grades are available just after the deadline, we cannot guarantee the committee’s ability to do so for applications who miss the early decision deadline.

Write-On Competition Policy for Transfer Students- The following information applied to the Fall 2012 application cycle.  This information will be updated for the Fall 2013 application cycle in June 2013.

Students applying to transfer to the University of Houston Law Center may participate in the June 16 –July 5 competition as prospective transfers OR the July 28 –Aug. 8 competitions as admitted transfers.  If you participate in the earlier competition, you will not be notified of the results until after your admissions status has been determined. This change has been implemented to permit transfer students who are admitted to the University and invited to join a journal to participate in firm recruiting events over the summer.  If grades from your 1L school have not been released by June 16, you may still participate in the earlier competition, however, an invitation to join a journal is contingent on 1) admission to the University and 2) attainment of the journal’s grade requirements.

For more information on the Law Center’s Write-On Competition, please visit the Houston Law Review’s website at: http://www.houstonlawreview.org/about/write-on-competition/

Transfer applicants may receive a conditional acceptance by submitting an application for transfer immediately after completing the first semester of law school. Applications for conditional acceptance may be submitted as early as January 1, and must include a transcript showing first-semester grades and class rank (if available). 2. An official transcript showing your grades and class standing at the end of the first year.

If your school will permit, you may send a photocopy of your CAS report, including your undergraduate transcript(s). If you are accepted, it will be necessary for you to furnish an official transcript from your undergraduate institution showing the award of your undergraduate degree. It will also be necessary for you to submit an official transcript from the law school you are presently attending.

Regular and Early Action Review:

All transfer applications for the fall semester should be filed by June 15th. While applicants must complete a minimum of one year of course work at an ABA accredited law school in either a full-time or part-time program and be in good academic standing to be eligible to apply to transfer or visit, files can be reviewed in our Early Action Program after the completion of one semester.

Applicants who have completed their fall semesters (full or part-time) and submit applications on or before March 15 automatically will be considered as Early Action Applicants. Those filing after March 15 and those not admitted based on Early Action review will be rolled over to the regular transfer pool.

Early Action admission is contingent on maintaining and certifying academic good standing and successful completion of all second semester courses.

An applicant who has completed four or more semesters of full-time or five or more semesters of part-time is ineligible to apply to transfer, but still eligible to apply to visit.

The number of credits transferred to WCL will vary. Transcripts are evaluated individually and each is compared with the WCL curriculum. Transfer students also must successfully complete at least 43 credits at WCL.

Transfer Applicant Requirements

  • Resume

TEMPLE UNIVERSITY

When should I apply to Temple Law?

The application process for Fall 2013 starts in September of 2012. You can apply any time from September 15, 2012 to March 1, 2013 for admission in the Fall of 2013. Temple has a rolling admissions policy which means that offers of admission are made as early as December. Therefore, we recommend that you apply early. We recommend that you apply online through LSAC, although we will also accept applications which are sent to us through the mail.

Does Temple require any specific undergraduate major(s)?

No. There is no required course of study during your undergraduate years. You must earn a baccalaureate degree from an institution which is approved by one of the regional accrediting associations of the United States. As for undergraduate classes, there is no prescribed course work. It is more important that you take classes that are challenging and that interest you. It is also important for you to do well and get good grades. Some students find classes in logic, philosophy, writing, and history helpful. Each year, however, we accept students with a wide variety of backgrounds from liberal arts to engineering to physics to criminal justice — and this is just to name a few.

What LSAT score do I need to be admitted to Temple Law School?

Temple Law School does not have a minimum LSAT requirement. Many students, however, are guided by the range of LSAT scores that were admitted in prior years. In 2011, the median LSAT score for the enrolled class was a 160. The middle fifty percent of the entering class presented LSAT scores ranging from 158-163.

What GPA is Temple looking for?

While Temple does not have specific GPA guidelines, you may want to consider the range of student GPAs that were admitted last year. The median GPA for the enrolled class for 2011 was a 3.39. Fifty percent of the students admitted had GPAs that fell between a 3.16 and a 3.56.

Is there a minimum GPA requirement?

Yes. Except upon a showing of extraordinary circumstances, admission will be denied any candidate who presents undergraduate work with a cumulative grade point average (as calculated by LSDAS) of less than 2.35 on a 4.0 scale. Possession of the minimum criteria, however, in no manner assures acceptance. Admission is on a competitive basis.

Does Temple offer an evening program?

Yes. The Law School does have a part-time evening division. The evening program normally takes four years to complete and students complete 4 classes per semester. Students may also choose to take summer classes which are all held in the evening.

Are the requirements for the evening division different than for the day division?

No. The admissions criteria are the same for students applying to the evening division as they are for students applying to the day division. The same full-time faculty members who teach day classes also teach evening and cover the same material.

In terms of LSAT scores from previous year(s) do you average the two scores together?

The Faculty Admissions Committee does not average LSAT scores and all scores from the LSAT will be considered. We do not use an index and admission to Temple Law School is not determined solely on numerical indicators such as the LSAT. If you have taken the LSAT more than once, and if there is a large disparity between your scores, we recommend that you address the disparity in a separate statement to be included with your application.

Does the Admissions Commitee consider factors such as diversity and work experience?

Diversity and work experience are certainly factors that the Admissions Committee considers in their evaluation. Temple prides itself on maintaining a diverse student body. Our concept of diversity is also broader than just race and ethnicity (although our entering class typically is made up of 20-25% of people from racial or ethnic minorities) and includes factors such as work experience, students from different parts of the country and students from diverse economic and educational family backgrounds.

What will make me an acceptable candidate to Temple Law?

It is difficult to answer the question “what will make me an acceptable candidate to Temple Law School?” Certainly, good grades and good LSAT scores are very helpful. Beyond the numerical factors, student activities, work or military experience, volunteer or community service, unique family circumstances are all factors that are considered. This list by no means, however, includes all of the factors considered by the Admissions Committee.

Refer to Application Procedures for more information. You should pay particular attention to the section on our discretionary admissions program, Sp.A.C.E., which is designed to look at factors beyond GPA and LSAT.

Does Temple admit students for the Spring or Summer semesters?

No. Temple only offers admission to the Law School in the Fall semester of any year. We do not have midyear admissions in January. You must apply for the Fall semester of any year. The latest you can take the LSAT for admission in that same year is February.

Does Temple accept transfer students?

Yes. Each year Temple Law accepts only a limited number of transfer students. There are a number of factors to evaluate in transferring. First, Temple only accepts transfers from students who are in the top 20% of their class at a school that is accredited by both the ABA and the AALS. Further, acceptance also depends on the availability of seats. Finally, Temple only accepts a maximum of 30 credits. You would need to apply for a transfer by June 1; however, decisions regarding transfer applications are generally not made until after all of your first year grades are available or approximately August 1.

Please refer to Transfer Applicants for more information.

Will Temple accept my foreign transcript in lieu of an official transcript evaluation?

No. Temple will not accept a transcript from your foreign university(ies) in lieu of an evaluation by the Credential Assembly Service through LSAC. Applicants with foreign degrees must obtain an analysis of their foreign academic credentials LSAC.

Further, a Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) is required of all applicants with a foreign degree. In cases where English is not your first language, applicants are also required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

May I audit a class at Temple Law?

No. The only way to take classes is to be admitted to a degree program. There is no non-degree equivalent at Temple University Beasley School of Law.

How can I arrange a visit to Temple Law School?

We encourage all students to visit the law school and have several different options available Please visit our Visit Us page for more information.

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY

The College of Law admits only a small number of transfer students each year. If you have completed one year of law study at an American Bar Association or Association of American Law Schools accredited law school, and are in good standing at your law school, you may be considered for admission with advanced standing.

Minimally, as a transfer applicant you should present a 2.7 or higher average on at least 25 hours of law school work. The Admissions Committee will consider your law school record as well as all factors the committee considers in an application for the entering class.

Admission as a transfer student beyond the first semester of the second year is rare, and will not be granted if you have completed more than 44 hours of law school work. Acceptance by the Admissions Committee in no way implies that all credits from another law school will be accepted for transfer credit.

As a candidate for transfer, you must submit:

*The application form and application fee

*A personal statement including your reasons for the requested transfer

*Letters of recommendation (optional but encouraged)

*A current CAS report

*Official undergraduate transcripts

*Official law school transcripts, and

*A letter from the Dean of your current law school certifying class rank, good academic standing and eligibility to continue in that school.

Application deadlines are June 1 for fall, December 1 for spring, and May 15 for summer. Only your application, personal statement and application fee must be submitted by the deadline. After applying, you will receive a letter from the College of Law giving you the date by which your law school transcript, CAS report, letter of good standing and other materials must be received.

Transfer Credits

Candidates admitted to the College of Law as transfer students may receive credit for up to 44 hours of work completed at their previous law school. UK accepts credits, but not grades. These credits are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, who reviews the transcript, makes the determination and notifies students before they enroll what courses will be accepted for transfer credit. The criteria for transfer credit hours include that:

The student must have received a grade of “C” or better in the courses at the original school

The courses must be either typical first-year courses or law school courses in which an upper level student would receive credit at UK

Work completed at the previous law school is generally accepted at the credit value awarded at the previous school

The first-year curriculum at the previous law school must generally satisfy the first-year curriculum at UK. If it does not, first-year courses must be taken by the transfer student at UK to complete successfully the UK required curriculum. The transfer student may be asked to supply copies of a syllabus, or law school catalog description to assist in this determination.

Credit for pass/fail courses is generally not awarded

UK does not have an articulation agreement with any other law school in regard to transferring arrangements.

Transfer students are unlikely to qualify for the Order of the Coif because, according to the Order’s constitution and membership rules, 75% of course work must be graded to qualify.

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY

Cardozo accepts transfer and visiting students for entry in the Fall or January.

To be eligible to transfer to Cardozo, transfer applicants must have completed a minimum of 24 transferable credits at an ABA-approved law school and the majority of Cardozo’s first-year curriculum. Part-time students are eligible to apply to transfer to Cardozo provided they meet these requirements. Transfer students are accepted only on a full-time basis, and may transfer a maximum of 42 credits.

Transfer students will complete their final two years of study at Cardozo and graduate with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Cardozo.

Visiting students spend one or two semesters at Cardozo, and graduate from the law school through which they have matriculated.

Application Requirements for Transfers and Visitors
A student seeking admission to Cardozo as a transfer or visiting student must submit the following:

A completed application for admission. You must apply electronically through LSAC.

An official current law school transcript including all first-year grades. **Your application will not be reviewed until we have received all of your first-year grades. **Second and third-year students must submit their most recently available transcripts. In some cases, the Committee will delay making a decision on your application until we have received grades from the semester immediately preceding the term you wish to attend Cardozo.

Your official class rank following the completion of your first year of law school. If your school does not rank, please request that your school send us a statement indicating such. **Your application will not be reviewed until we have received your official first-year class rank. **Second- and third-year students must submit their most recently available class ranks.

A short personal statement about your reasons for transferring or visiting. You must submit this statement as an electronic attachment to your application. Please note that this statement should be submitted in lieu of the personal statement requested in our application.

Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which must come from one of your law school professors. We prefer that you submit these letters through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service, but will accept letters sent directly to Cardozo.

A copy of the first page of your CAS report showing your LSAT score. Your law school registrar may send a copy to Cardozo, or you may request that a new report be sent to us from LSAC.

A letter from the appropriate official of your current law school indicating that you are in good standing. If you are applying as a visiting student, the letter must expressly grant permission for you to study at Cardozo as a visiting student for the applicable semester(s).

A résumé submitted via an electronic attachment.

Deadlines and Decisions
There is no firm application deadline for transfer and visiting students since current law school grades are required; however, we recommend that you submit your application as early as possible and that it be completed no later than August 10 for the Fall term, and** January 1 for the Spring term**. Your file will not be reviewed until all required materials are received.

Decisions on transfer and visiting applications are made on a rolling basis beginning when the application is complete. During the review process, the Committee not only evaluates the merits of each application individually, but also relative to all other applications in the pool.  Some applications may receive a decision fairly quickly; in many cases, however, the Committee’s comparative appraisal of a file is a lengthier process, to allow the
Committee to re-review an application and carefully assess a candidate’s strength in comparison to the full applicant pool.

As long as a candidate’s file is completed in a timely manner, her/his application will be thoroughly reviewed and given full and complete consideration.  Due to the careful assessment of each individual application, the Admissions Committee is unable to guarantee that a decision will be made on an application within a particular time frame.

Transfer Credits
Admitted transfer students are informed in their admission package of their transfer credit award.

Transfer credit is given only for courses completed at ABA-approved law schools.  J.D. transfer credit is not available for pass/fail courses and will be awarded only for graded courses in which a student received a letter grade of “C” or better, although the grade itself will not transfer.

Because of the lack of comparability of grades at other schools, grades in courses taken at another school are not included in the calculation of a J.D. student’s Cardozo grade point average for purposes of determining academic standing and class rank at Cardozo, or for determination of honors.

J.D. transfer credit must be specifically approved to satisfy Cardozo’s distribution requirements, course prerequisites, writing requirement, professional responsibility requirement, Advanced Legal Research requirement, or concentrations.

Transfer credit will not be awarded for any coursework occurring prior to the beginning of law school study.

Articulation Agreements
Other than our established joint programs (JD/MSW, JD/MSB), we have no agreements between schools governing the transfer of credit (articulation agreements).

ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Chicago-Kent welcomes transfer applications from students who have previously enrolled for at least one year at another ABA-accredited law school. Transfer students may seek admission as either full- or part-time JD students, and may also seek admission into the certificate programs in intellectual property law, international and comparative law, environmental and energy law, labor and employment law, business law, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, criminal litigation, and public interest law.

Admission to the law school is highly competitive. The Admissions Committee will consider transfer applicants for admission based upon their law school performance in addition to Chicago-Kent’s other admissions standards. Particular emphasis is given to first-year law school performance, the nature and rigor of the undergraduate curriculum, writing ability, the personal statement, and letters of recommendation, particularly those from academic sources. Each file is reviewed individually. Students who are not currently in good standing at another law school are not eligible for transfer admission and will not be considered.

Applicants for admission to Chicago-Kent must have received a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university prior to beginning classes at the law school in mid-August. Any applicant who will not have completed his or her degree before the date that he or she expects to start law school should notify the Office of Admissions, in writing, as soon as this fact is known.

Application Procedure

We recommend that you submit theChicago-Kent online application, which is available through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). There are separate application forms for fall and spring transfer admission. If you are not able to complete the application online, please contact the Office of Admissions at (312) 906-5020 or admissions@kentlaw.iit.edu to request a PDF of the application form.

Because each law school’s application is different, please be certain to read each question carefully and make certain that you have completed every item on the application so that review of your application is not delayed. All materials submitted with, or in support of, an application become the property of Chicago-Kent and are not returnable.

It is your responsibility to make sure that all statements that you make on the application are accurate and complete. You are required to inform us, in writing, of any changes in the information you have provided. Any failure to supply accurate, complete, or updated information may result in a filing of applicant misconduct with LSAC, withdrawal of any offer of admission, or cancellation of registration, and may be a violation of the Chicago-Kent College of Law Code of Conduct. It may also jeopardize your eventual admission to the bar.

Information on sex, age, ethnic origin, and citizenship status is collected for compliance reports in connection with federal regulations pursuant to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Executive Order 11246 as amended by Executive Order 11375 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Part 86, 45 C.F.R. and is not mandatory. **Q. What are the deadlines?**
USD uses a “rolling admissions” process. However, the priority dates are as follows:

  • Fall Admission- June 30
  • Spring Admission- December 1

**Q. What criteria do you consider in making the admission decision?**
Your LSAT and undergraduate GPA are no longer the primary determining factors for admission. The main considerations are your class ranking and performance in each class at the school you are currently attending. To be competitive, you should be in at least the upper 25th percentile of your first-year class.

**Q. Is there a disadvantage to spring admission?**
No. However, if you plan to attend your current school during the fall semester, it is unlikely that we will have your fall semester grades and class ranking in time for a decision since we usually start the spring semester in early January.

**Q. How do I obtain an application fee waiver?**
You may contact the Admissions Office at jdinfo@sandiego.edu to request an application fee waiver.

**Q. Does USD encourage minority and other non-traditional applicants?**
Yes, the University of San Diego School of Law seeks to enroll a highly qualified and diverse student body. We consistently strive to ensure academic excellence and enrichment through the participation of students with different perspectives and backgrounds.

**Q. Do you grant personal interviews?**
Due to the large number of applications, it is not possible to grant personal interviews. You should highlight pertinent information about your experiences in your personal statement.

**Q. Once I submit my application, when will a decision be made?**
Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. Generally, the admission committee will consider an application shortly after all materials including the first year transcripts are received. In some cases, an offer of provisional admission made is made based on academic performance during the first semester.

Q. Do I need to choose between the Full Time or Part Time Program?  When you apply you must indicate which program you are applying to. If you have interest in either program you are permitted to note that in your application.

**Q. Do you offer any concurrent degree programs?**
USD offers concurrent degree programs with MBA (Master of Business Administration), IMBA (International Master of Business Administration), and MA (Master of Arts in International Relations). The Master’s Degree programs require a separate entrance exam and separate graduate admissions application. Many students apply for these programs in their second year of law school.

**Q. Is there a limit to the number of classes that can be transferred?**
USD will typically accept those credits earned in the first year of law school, provided students have earned a “C” or better in those courses. Typically this will equate to 30 transfer credits. Upon admission, you will receive a letter indicating which classes will be accepted for transfer. For information on which courses may or may not transfer, please contact lawstudentaffairs@sandiego.edu.

Financial Aid

Q. What is the tuition cost at the University of San Diego School of Law? For current tuition rates please visit www.sandiego.edu/law/tuition.

Q. How do I apply for other financial aid? What is the deadline? Although there is no deadline, students who wish to be considered for financial aid should file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the March 1 priority filing date. The FAFSA may be filed as early as January 1. You may file the FAFSA online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov or order a form by calling 1-800-4FEDAID.

Q. Should I file for financial aid prior to being admitted? You should not wait until you are admitted to file your FAFSA. We recommend that you file your FAFSA as soon as you can after January 1. You can list multiple schools on your FAFSA. Be sure to list the USD School of Law code G06976.

Q. How do I apply for scholarships? Transfer students are eligible to apply for endowment scholarships each Fall and they will be eligible to compete based on their USD grades for tuition scholarships going into their third year

**Q. When can I expect to receive a financial aid offer letter?**
Once your financial aid file is complete, the Financial Aid Office will prepare your tentative award based on the evaluation received from the Department of Education. This process usually takes two to three weeks from the file complete date.

**Q. Besides the FAFSA, are there any other forms I will need to provide to be considered for financial aid?**
Once you are admitted, you will receive an Institutional Financial Aid Application to complete and return. If you are selected for the verification process or have incomplete information, you may be required to provide additional documents such as your most recent federal income tax return.

**Q. Can the aid I received at my previous school affect my award for USD Financial Aid?**
USD uses the summer term as the start of the academic year. If you receive a Federal Direct Loan or a Federal Perkins Loan at your previous school during the summer and/or fall terms before you transfer to USD, the amount of federal loans that you are eligible to borrow at USD may be reduced so that you do not borrow more than the maximum allowed for the academic year. However, you may be eligible for private loans to make up the difference.

**Q. How much can/should I borrow?**
As a graduate student you may borrow $20,500 each academic year from the Federal Direct Loan Program. In addition, graduate students are now eligible to borrow under the PLUS Loan Program up to the cost of attendance. It is important to establish a budget, review your outstanding undergraduate loans and consumer debt, and only borrow the minimum amount you need.

Q. Can I get Work Study? If you are eligible and if you indicate on the USD Institutional Financial Aid Application you are interested in Federal Work Study, you will be awarded up to $4000 in Federal Work Study for each academic year.
