2019-2020 LSAT & The Transition to Digital: What to Expect

With the upcoming shifts LSAC will be making to the LSAT, we wanted to lay out all of the dates the test is available for the 2019-2020 cycle along with all of the information we know about them, especially the July transition to the digital test.

  • Monday, June 3, 2019 at 12:30 PM — this is the last traditional, on-paper LSAT administration, and it will be "disclosed" (i.e. you will be able to see the questions and which answers/how many you got right and wrong for each section). The deadline to register is April 24, 2019.
  • Monday, July 15, 2019 at 12:30 PM — half of the test centers, and about half of the registrants, will take the traditional on-paper LSAT on this date. The other half will take the new digital LSAT (taken on tablets with scratch paper/pencils available; digital LSAT tutorial available here). You will not know which test format you will be taking until you arrive at the test center. Important note: all July test-takers, regardless of format, will have the opportunity to cancel their score after they receive it, which has never been done by LSAC before to the best of our knowledge and will likely never be done again. This means that you will receive your score (likely after a slightly longer time period than other LSAT administrations, given the dual-format method), and then you will have five days to decide whether you want to cancel the score. If you do choose to cancel, schools will see the test administration on your score report, along with a marker for "cancel," i.e. they will see that you took the test but will not see the score you would have gotten. Note that if you do choose to cancel, you will have the opportunity to retake the LSAT for free. The deadline to register is June 4, 2019
